Ok, this is another rcon tool for cod 4. I know i already said in a previous post that HLSW was the best rcon tool. But that’s because it supports a ton of other games and isn’t game specific (supports over 40 games). But the tool i’m gonna talk about today is CoD 4 specific. Trust me you’re gonna love the features of this tool, which you’ll find out more about later in this post, trust me they’re sweet so keep reading.
This tool is called ModernRcon which was made by Josh “JD” Olin from CODHQ. To use this tool you will need to have the latest version of Java installed on your PC.

First up the login:
Fill it in the press connect (duh?). Then you should see the main interface with lots of options:
Right, now most of these options are pretty normal to most guys so i’m gonna touch on some of the features worth talking about.
MessageCenter Tab:
In here you can type out messages to your server that you can set to repeat after so many seconds and also you can add colours to your message.
Punkbuster Tab:
In the punkbuster tab you can kick/ban (shows as pb kick/ban in server), take pb screenshots, save a list and also copy a particular players entire GUID. I think having a PB GUI intergrated into a rcon tool is really handy for those admins who don’t use PB’s functionality enough, like taking PB screenshots of players. So this should make thing easier for the lazy guys that don’t wanna type!
Ok now to the tab that i think is my favourite and will probably be others favourite too.
Chat Tab (PBUCON):
“PBUCON is a PunkBuster Server facility that allows server admins to obtain a remote UDP based console with a running PunkBuster Server version 1.225 or higher. Admins can use PBUCON to stream PB logging and optionally issue remote commands and optionally (for some games) stream normal game server logging. PBUCON allows concurrent real-time streaming of PB logging to multiple remote hosts and also does not require any special firewall configuration as it uses the same socket and port used by the running PunkBuster server for communication.”
Basically what that means is you can spy on your server lol. All the messages in the server including team chat can be seen in the the chat tab window :O.
Anyway just type in 55555 in the box and press connect, then you’re in:
As you can see in that pic i’m talking to someone (#dX|Smurf) in the server allthough i’m not in it and i’m able to see the msg’s sent back to me. Something not present in most rcon tools that offer a message feature where by you can only send a message but not recieve them. PBUCON can actually be downloaded from evenbalance.com as a program on it’s own but is harder to use as it runs as a dos interface, so you kinda need to know your stuff. So having this intergrated into ModernRcon is a nice touch.
